Prayer for Rain

Drought 1838

In the years eading up to 1838, much of the eastern region of Australia was in severe drought. Losses of cattle and sheep were high. Water supplies were becoming dangerously low. The Governor of NSW at the time was George Gipps. Because of the drought, Governor Gipps proclaimed Sunday, November 2nd, 1838 a national day of fasting and humiliation. Within two days, heavy rains came.

Drought 1895

Almost sixty years later, another drought devastated much of the land. Again, a day of humiliation and fasting was called. Again, God answered the prayer and the rains fell.
