The Courts
When someone appears in an Australian Court of Law the following words are said:
"The evidence you shall give to the Court [and jury sworn] shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God. Say 'I swear'. The witness then says 'I Swear'."
Currently, people appearing in Court may choose to say an affirmation instead of the oath. However, it is suggested that most people choose to say the Christian oath.
Most parliamentarians, Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers are sworn in using the Bible. The Governor-General invites those to stand in their place and take the Bible in their right hand. The Oath is read with the reply "I do. So help me God!"
